Earlier this year, Steele School and all other Galesburg elementary schools participated in the local Geography Bowl held at Lombard Middle School. Months of hard work and studying were on the line as each ten member team arrived in their perspective team shirts. Steele students had been well prepared by Coach Shelley Golden, fourth grade teacher at Steele. After many years coaching at Cooke School, she was excited about the first team she was coaching at Steele. She was pleasantly surprised by the students poise in the first game and Steele came away with a win, 160 points to 70. This was followed by three more wins, which set up two undefeated teams to play for the championship. In this final match, both schools showed a great amount of poise, resilience, and team spirit to go along with their deep amount of knowledge. In the end, Steele won this match, 200 to 150, giving them the overall championship. The team scored 990 points on the day with the closest school having scored 740 points. The students were extremely excited and an all school assembly was held in their honor the following Monday at school.
